Class Information:
The Borei (or Borey) class, also known as the Russian designation Project 955 Borei and Project 955A Borei-A, are a series of nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines being constructed by Sevmash for the Russian Navy. The class has been replacing the steadily retiring Russian Navy Delta III and Delta IV classes and fully retired Typhoon.
Borei class includes a compact and integrated hydrodynamically efficient hull for reduced broadband noise and the first ever use of pump-jet propulsion on a Russian nuclear submarine. The acoustic signature of Borei is significantly stealthier than that of the previous generations of Russian SSBNs.
Smaller than the Typhoon class, the Boreis were initially reported to carry 12 missiles but are able to carry four more due to the decrease in mass of the 36-ton Bulava SLBM.
The Model Kit:
This model kit is part of the Scaleships line of products. Like all of the Scaleships kits, this model kit is exceptionally well laid up, with crisp details and minimal flash. It is a mixed medi kit with a fiberglass hull, resin appendages and sail, cast bronze impeller, metal shafts and scopes, and 3D printed detail parts.
Rendered in 1/96 scale, this model kit measures approximately 69" (175cm) in overall length with a beam of 5.5" (14cm).
